Freshman forward Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) recorded a season high in scoring, but nationally ranked Illinois Central pulled away in the second half to defeat the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team 72-43 on Monday night.
Jackson scored a team- and season-high 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, surpassing her previous best of 13 points on Dec. 3 against Eureka JV.
The Chargers (5-7) trailed the fourth-ranked Cougars (11-1) 32-20 at halftime. Sandburg pulled within 38-29 early in the third quarter, but ICC closed the period on a 19-4 run.
Jackson was the only Charger to reach double figures. Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) added eight points, and Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) had seven rebounds.
Emma Henderson scored 14 off the bench to lead three ICC players in double figures.
The Chargers will host South Suburban at 1 p.m. Thursday in the opening game of a men’s-women’s doubleheader.
